Jewelry Tips for Men

For men, other than wearing a wedding ring, jewelry is a rather iffy fashion choice because so often it can look ostentatious. This is because in our society, we see jewelry as something that women wear, and in some cases, as a rather vain practice. Thus, for men, when it comes to choosing to wear a piece of jewelry, the theme should be, proceed with caution.

For men, jewelry options come down to: rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings.

Rings

Men tend to wear rings as a means of making a statement. A wedding ring obviously lets everyone know he’s married. Any other ring is a celebration of success. A big diamond serves no other purpose than to gloat about your financial success. Other gaudy rings either serve the same purpose or serve as a device for stating that you expect to one day have something better. Thus, for men, rings are best left at the store, or in a drawer.

Bracelets

Wristwatches don’t count as a bracelet or as jewelry for that matter; which means that men should for the most part, unless they are planning a trip to Europe or are Bohemian in nature, simply abstain; as there really are no other good options. Wearing a bracelet will generally make you look weak, which is never a good look for a man.

Necklaces

For men, necklaces are more the gold and/or silver kind and can be worn tastefully if the person wearing it has a body and personality that can back it up. If not, it’s best to not wear them at all. For the most part, necklaces or chains around the neck work best when worn in a subtle manner, rather than as a means of boasting about your financial prowess. Thus go with thin short strands, rather than fat links that jangle when you move.

Earrings

Earrings have clearly become more popular in recent years, but so too has it become obvious that only certain kinds of men can pull them off; the others simply look ridiculous. The trick is in figuring out which sort of person you are. For the most part, if you’re an athlete and reasonably young, you’re much more likely to be able to make it work for you. If you’re a regular guy with a regular job, the chances are you won’t, so it’s best to not try. If you do wear an earring, it’s best to go with something very little, and never dangly. Generally just a tiny hoop that clutches the lobe or a stud made of something quite sparkly.
