Tips for Buying Jewelry for a Wedding Anniversary

Most women always like to receive jewelry. They especially like the kind that tends to empty wallets. Men, on the other hand, like to see the sparkle of a diamond exceeded only by the sparkle in her eyes. Anniversaries are a tricky time to buy jewelry. While they are all important as the years stack up, not all anniversaries are considered milestones. The 5′s are. The 25th and each 5 thereafter just seems larger than ever.

But, let’s assume you are motivated to buy some shiny piece for the woman you love. Most women today aren’t real fans of the brooch. Rings usually please. You need to know her size. If you’re not sure about this and most men aren’t, you need to find a way to ask several months ahead of time. If you can’t seem to get this done, ask her sister, mother, the neighbor’s wife, someone she works with, or one of her friends. Yes, they will probably all know even though you don’t.

Unless it’s her birthstone, I would steer away from diamonds. If it’s a special anniversary like 25 or 50, it’s fine. Or if you just got a huge promotion or bonus and can shoot the moon, buy something impressive. Otherwise, get something that is tasteful but not gaudy unless you know your wife goes for that. Emeralds, rubies, aquamarines, and even lesser stones make great looking rings. If you can stack some other accents around the main stone, most rings have a measure of pop to them.Try to get something that she can brag up to friends and family. Do this whether you get a ring or something else.

If your wife dresses up often, pearls are a nice choice. A necklace with matching earrings always goes good. A nice gold chain with a solitaire diamond hanging on it with diamond stud earrings is a sure winner. If the budget’s tight, many women like a necklace with a meaningful charm; a nurse emblem for a nurse, etc.

A few years ago, tennis bracelets were really big. They still are popular. With small stones, a diamond tennis bracelet can be found in a reasonable price range. They can be dressed up with other accent stones or etchings in the gold to give additional sparkle.

As important as the jewelry is, how you present it is even more important. Most women want to relive the romance of your proposal. Well, unless you said, “Uh, hey, you want to get married or something,” as you road along in your rusty pickup. Pick it up man! Give it to her over a nice dinner in a great restaurant. Or return to the place of the proposal and restate your love for her. The value of the piece will skyrocket in her heart if you set the mood as she receives it.
