How to Choose Children’s Jewelry
You want your child to enjoy beautiful jewelry. You must be careful, however, because many of the pieces that would be safe for an adult would not be appropriate for a child. You want to take the proper precautions in order to safeguard your child.
First make sure that you get something that is considered safe for children. For instance, you do not want to get any small jewelry for a child under three or for a child who still puts things in his or her mouth. Most pieces of jewelry are either small or can be broken apart into small pieces, which could then be ingested by a child who is still chewing on material items. If your child is under three, only give him or her something specifically recommended for that age.
You should be careful about certain materials. For instance, be very careful about real crystals such as Swarovski crystals, which could contain lead. There are other metals that are made more for adults. If it comes in a package then read it to see what age it says it is for. Just because your child is three doesn’t mean that he or she can wear every piece.
You also need to consider the size of the jewelry. A piece that would seem small on you might be very large appearing on the child. You do not want something that will be too big for him or her.
Think about how comfortable the piece of jewelry is. You do not want to give him or her a heavy necklace that will leave marks on his or her neck. If your child is uncomfortable then he or she might take it off and leave it somewhere.
You might want to look for jewelry with a specific character that your child likes. There are many different pieces that feature favorite characters such as Hello Kitty and the Disney Princesses. Choose something that your child likes.
Of course most people need to consider price when choosing jewelry for their children. You may not want something that appears too expensive because you do not want someone to try and take it. Also, your child might not be as responsible as an adult and may lose the jewelry.
Make sure that everything fits well. You do not want something that is too tight or too loose; you do not want it falling off.
There are many beautiful pieces of jewelry for children. Go with your child to pick out the perfect piece.
