Tips for Choosing Beautiful Earrings

Earrings: The Festive Ornaments of a Look”

Sometimes an outfit calls for a pair earrings . . . wait, what are we saying? ALL outfits call for earrings, because they enhance the bone structure. The key to beauty, be it makeup, manicures, or accessories, is to enhance what is naturally there, accentuating strengths, instead of hiding behind a lack of adornment. But how does one choose from so many different types of earrings? Women must understand the ins and outs of shopping for the effervescent dangle.

The first rule is: buy to color coordinate. If accessorizing itself comes as top priority, color-coordinating is next in line. The outfit is bright blue, and your earrings pull from a similar shade, and you look pulled-together. The details of your look are noticeable.

Next, we should include, is to buy quality. I don’t mean spend $60 on a pair, but do not settle for the type that will irritate the sensitive earlobes. It is important to buy pieces that will last, and damaging kinds will, clearly, not.

Now, the real shopping begins with shapes. In order to flatter the bone structure, examine the four basic face shapes:

ROUND FACE, plump faces should opt for earrings with sharp angles, like squares or even triangles, to bring more dimensions to the face. Types that fall at or below the tip of the nose, and thus beyond the cheekbones, help to draw attention to the jaw line and pull at previously-ignored, but potentially flattering shadows.

SQUARE FACE should opt for rounder shapes instead, such as large hoops. These soften the sharp angles of the face.

HEART-SHAPED FACE, also known as pixie types, should opt for earrings that are shorter, such as prominent, sparkling studs. Long earrings, in this case, can pull the pointed jaw line further down, elongating the face instead of drawing attention in to the cuteness of the look that is within such delicacy.

OVAL FACE are perhaps the most versatile. Any shape will usually do, but one may prefer to call attention to the cheekbones with a longer, more chandelier-like adornment, which you can pull off.

But these rules, please remember, are NOT set in stone:

Remember that your look is a portrait of how much you respect yourself. If you take yourself seriously and sell what you do choose to wear, others will too. Keep your accessories funky if you’re funky and simple if you are simple in style. Go for earrings that dangle and sparkle, especially if you have eyes which also glimmer. Use your hair style to also show them off, going with an elegant up-do when the accessories are glamorous, or expensive (a girl can display her taste, tight budget or not). Just remember to keep them color-coordinated, and go with your gut-instinct on what you truly find interesting, unique, confidence-generating, or just plain right for your look. Have fun with your accessories, and you’ll feel good in your clothes.
