Colors to Watch for Spring 2014
Pantone, the worldwide color authority, recently announced their Fashion Color Report for Spring 2014, which is an overview of the hues that have been seen all over the runway at New York Fashion Week. Pantone explains the trending colors "pair soft pastels with vivid brights to create a colorful equilibrium." With the array of gemstone colors in the new palette, expect to see a lot of customers looking for fine jewelry pieces that feature these colors.
The colors for Spring 2014 can be divided into three categories: soothing pastels, neutrals and bold colors. Placid Blue, Violet Tulip and Hemlock constitute the group of calming pastels, which can all be paired with bolder hues. The Placid Blue color shares the hue of the aquamarine gemstone, which may gain more popularity in the coming months. Sand and Paloma serve as the neutrals for the group, which may mean that the colored gemstone bridal trend will continue throughout the next season.
Freesia, Cayenne, Celosia Orange, Radiant Orchid and Dazzling Blue make up the bold colors of the palette, which will directly translate to powerful gemstone hues. Freesia, Cayenne and Celosia Orange are colors all borrowed from the floral jewelry trend, which remains as a front runner in the fashion world. It also comes as no surprise that Dazzling Blue will be a hot color since it's gained so much attention recently with blue sapphire engagement rings like the one Kate Middleton now owns. These bold colors make nice companions to the calming pastels and neutrals on the color palette, so expect to see a lot of jewelry with contrasting elements in Spring 2014.
